1. 1821 Pattern Life Guards Trooper's Cuirass ( Armour ). Issued to the Life Guards for the coronation of King George IV in 1821, this pattern of cuirass has remained unchanged for over 180 years and is worn by the Life Guards today. While 1821 was the date for the official introduction of the cuirass to the Life Guards there was a brief use of cuirasses during the Napoleonic Wars. In 1814 the 2nd Life Guards wore cuirasses when they were reviewed by the Prince Regent, with the King of Prussia and the Emperor of Russia in attendance. It has been suggested this was the same pattern but evidence is sketchy.

This expertly handcrafted reproduction cuirass offered here is made of 18-gauge steel and detailed in brass including all the edges. The studs or rivets are also brass and serve to hold a well fitted tan leather liner in place. One of the most striking features is the beautifully constructed shoulder scales with it ornate clasp fastener. Completing this piece is a buff leather waistbelt. If you have been looking for this item from other suppliers you will have noticed it priced around $750 US. Not only is our reproduction almost $300 less, we think it is of better construction! That is why we have a money back guarantee. (Note: only one size available - size 40 inch chest)

2. Life Guards Trooper's Helmet. We expect to have this item in stock soon. Please notify us if you wish to be contacted when they are ready. As noted the red horsehair is for the farriers of the Life Guards and the white was used by the troopers. Both options will be offered. The Blues and Royals, also part of the Queen's Household Cavalry, wear the red horsehair plume as well.

3. Victorian Life Guard's Officer Dress Sword. The post-Crimean War period brought a flurry of changes to the regimental patterns of swords carried by Britain's Heavy Cavalry. Included in this was the adoption of a variation of the 1st Life Guards 1834 pattern sword by the 2nd Life Guards in 1865. Officially sanctioned in 1872, this sword was carried by this famous regiment through the Boer War and WWI until 1922 when the 1st and 2nd Life Guards were amalgamated. This did not end the life of this impressive pattern. Instead the "2" was dropped from the guard's ornamental cypher and it became the official state sword of the Life Guards. As the images will attest, the detailing on this replica is breath taking and the craftsmanship astounding. The steel guard with its ornamental cypher and brass studs is obviously streaking. The hilt is completed with a checkered pommel, a stepped back strap and a wire wrapped black grip. The 39 inch blade is well fullered and with the appropriate etching work for an elite unit officer. Completing this fine piece is its steel scabbard with brass mountings. This is an incredible piece and considering its price, a must for your collection.
